Essence, the stuff we are made of, the fabric of who we are, the template of our being. How do you nourish or know your own essence? What does knowing your own essence bring to your life? These are the questions that lead my work with people and their health. Using the Chinese medical framework for understanding the physiology and pathology of the human body, I like to work from the ground up, you could say, beginning with our most fundamental substance, essence. In Chinese medicine, essence is our DNA, the iron in our blood or the marrow in our bones and joints. In effect, it is our most precious substance, our inheritance and our blueprint, though we often squander it without realizing what we are doing. In connecting with your essence, you may prevent squandering it, but even better you can begin to live from the place of your own knowing, the deepest resource of your being. When you live from the “body truth” you can begin to know exactly what you need and how to allocate your precious resources.
In Chinese medicine, we can nourish and enliven the essence with things that come from the earth. Plants and stones, especially in the form of essential oils or gem elixirs can speak to the essence directly, resonating right with our own essence. You could say that we and the earth are made of the same stuff, though each life form may use that stuff differently. I invite you to work with me using herbs, essential oils and stones to awaken your relationship to your own essence, to learn from the way of the earth, and to heal and enrich your life.
